With another tax season on our doorstep we are starting to see the latest round of emails claiming you have a refund coming. This year they seem to be trying to take advantage of our growing use of eTransfers.
Fortunately Gmail has determined that this is spam and sends it directly to the Spam folder. Other email providers may not recognize and allow this to your inbox.
My suggestion is to delete these emails and empty deleted and spam folders. This is 100% a scam and, although I have not clicked on any links inside the email, am positive that this will only infect your machine with something malicious.
If you receive a phone call in regards to the above or computer repairs, banking updates or anything else you deem suspicious or in a accent that you find hard to understand, simply state that you do not conduct any business over the phone and then hang up. If they phone back, just keep repeating the statement.
Canada Revenue Agency has this alert posted on their website. They also offer some advise on how to protect yourself against fraud.
Below is an excerpt from one of the 6 email I have received in my spam over the past week. Again, just delete the email(s).
